The letter "s" after "ts"

The choice of the letter “i” or “s” after “ts” depends on the place in the word and on the grammatical form of the lexeme. The letter “y” is written mainly after “ts”, not in the root, but in other morphemes:

1. at the endings of words:

a) for nouns in the singular genitive and plural forms:

  • near the border
  • at the table
  • two proverbs
  • past the outskirts
  • at my friend's
  • two smart girls
  • favorite oysters
  • delicious cabbage rolls
  • songbirds
  • noisy streets

b) for adjectives

  • broad-faced
  • scanty
  • pale-faced

2. in the suffix -yn- possessive adjectives:
