Introduction

A theatrical performance is always a process of interaction between partners. Moreover, a partner for an artist is not only another artist, but also the audience, and even inanimate objects (real or imaginary). Often the artist is a partner for himself: any monologue in which the character doubts, suffers, asks insoluble questions , turned inward.

Interaction with a partner, communication with him is the alpha and omega of stage existence. There are no moments on stage when the artist does not communicate with anyone. There are no such moments in life.

Arkady Nikolaevich came in, congratulated us on the new stage and turned to Veselovsky:

—Who or what are you communicating with now? - he asked him.

Veselovsky was busy with his own thoughts and therefore did not immediately understand what he was being asked about.

- I? With no one and nothing! - he answered almost mechanically.

- Yes, you are a “miracle of nature”! You should be sent to the Cabinet of Curiosities if you can live without communicating with anyone! - Arkady Nikolaevich joked.

Veselovsky began to apologize and assure that no one looked at him and no one addressed him. Therefore, he could not communicate with anyone.

- Is it really necessary for this to be looked at or talked to? - Arkady Nikolaevich was perplexed. - Close your eyes now, cover your ears, be silent and watch who and what you will mentally communicate with. Catch at least one moment when you are left without an object of communication!

I also did a test for myself, that is, I closed my eyes, covered my ears and began to monitor what was happening in my mind.

I imagined yesterday’s party at the theater, where the famous string quartet performed, and I began to mentally, step by step, remember everything that happened to me there. So I entered the foyer, said hello, sat down and began to look at the musicians getting ready to play.

Soon they started playing, and I listened to them. But I was unable to properly penetrate, listen, and feel their performance.

Here it is, an empty moment of non-communication! - I decided and hastened to inform Tortsov about this.

- How?! - he exclaimed in amazement. — Do you consider the perception of a work of art to be an empty moment, devoid of communication?

- Yes. Because I listened, but did not hear yet, I delved into, but did not understand yet. Therefore, I believe that communication had not yet begun, and the moment was empty, I insisted.

— Communication and perception of music did not begin, because the previous process was not yet over and distracted attention. But as soon as it stopped, they started listening to music or being interested in something else. Therefore, there was no break in communication... [1]

But if in life we interact with people completely naturally, often involuntarily, then in stage conditions real, full-blooded communication with a partner is difficult to achieve. This happens not only because the actor is forced to utter someone else’s words and live someone else’s life. In order for the process of interaction with a partner on stage to begin, it is necessary to stop the internal communication that occurs continuously during a rehearsal or performance. The artist, according to Stanislavsky, “is a person who is characterized by human weaknesses. Coming to the stage, he naturally brings with him his inherent life thoughts, personal feelings, reflections born of reality. Therefore, in the theater, his everyday, philistine line does not stop, but at the first opportunity it intersperses with the experiences of the person portrayed. The artist gives himself to the role only in those moments when it captures him. Then he merges with the image and creatively transforms. But as soon as he is distracted from the role, he is again captured by his own, human line of life, which takes him either off the stage, into the auditorium, or far beyond the theater, and there he finds objects of mental communication for himself. At these moments, the role is transmitted externally, mechanically. Due to such frequent distractions, the line of life and communication is constantly interrupted, and the empty space is filled with inserts from the artist’s own life that have no relation to the person portrayed” [1].

The action on stage must be continuous, even in those moments when outwardly nothing is happening. We must understand that action is, first of all, the impact on the partner and the perception of his counteraction. What nature this interaction will have depends on the plot of the play, its intrigue and events. The main thing is that it is an interaction between people living in given scenic circumstances. Only in this case will the stage performance capture both the actors themselves and the people sitting in the auditorium. But living on stage in the proposed circumstances, unfortunately, often turns out to be an impossible task for actors. The two most common mistakes are: playing yourself (that is, bringing your personal problems, beliefs, interests, conflicts to the stage); and portray a character using acting cliches. The training exercises and studies proposed in this book teach you to avoid these dangerous mistakes.

How to “live the life of a role”? How not to lose the attention of a crowd of thousands sitting in the auditorium? How to ensure the continuity of the process of communication with partners with your feelings, thoughts, actions, similar to the feelings, thoughts, actions of the role they portray? What needs to be done in order to involve the viewer in the stage communication, to make him your partner, a participant in the action? The answer to all these questions was the Stanislavsky system, on the basis of which this training was created.

Shadow

In the “Acting” discipline, training is always comprehensive; the basic concepts are intertwined in one exercise and require constant concentration of strength from the actor.

An interesting exercise with shadows. The first person makes some movements, justifying them with a goal (this can be some pointless action), and the second person is his “shadow” - he completely repeats every action. Of course, the first one must work slowly so that the second one has time to repeat. But the task of the second participant is to very carefully monitor the leader and try to predict his actions. In addition, he also needs to understand what kind of action is being performed and justify it, because the goal of a person and a shadow always coincides.

Such exercises, which help to hone acting skills for beginners, develop a sense of leverage - it always reminds the actor that he does not work alone, but depends on everyone, and everyone depends on him in the same way.

How to tell if you have acting ability

It’s quite easy to discover your artistic abilities. It is enough to observe the reactions of others. There are several signs by which you can easily determine whether you really want to become an actor:

  1. Friends love your stories. Even if what you say is extremely banal, they always listen to you carefully. Some people take years to learn how to hold the public's attention.
  2. It is not difficult for you to gain a person's trust. It's all about developed charm and charisma - you win people over from the first words, so you are often considered a “favorite” among teachers in educational institutions and among superiors at work.
  3. You know how to accurately portray another person. Noticing all the subtleties of people's behavior and being able to reproduce them is an ability that only a real actor can master.
  4. You are great at reading monologues. If the reproduction of an excerpt from any work causes delight among listeners, then you are not lacking in artistry.
  5. If you can lie beautifully, you have great creative potential. Sometimes this indicates excessive trust of the other person, but more often the reason lies in well-coordinated facial expressions and confident intonation.
  6. You have no problem hiding your emotions: you laugh when you’re sad or in a good mood, you get upset when someone feels bad.
  7. You have good control of your body. Moving to the beat, being able to convey various images with body movements is an actor’s calling. You can try yourself in pantomime to evaluate your own potential.

Attention

In any field of activity, a person with absent-minded attention is unlikely to achieve success. Acting for beginners includes many exercises aimed specifically at developing voluntary attention. A lot of things in acting depend on this, starting with the fact that in class the first thing you pay attention to is so that not a single word of the teacher is missed, and ending with the fact that on stage the actor must act exactly along the line of the role, without being distracted by outsiders noises, but at the same time keep your partner and his actions under control, so as not to turn into a mechanical performer.

To improve attention, acting for beginners offers fairly simple exercises.

A.Bender

Website: https://a-bender.ru Duration: on request Cost: on request

Acting courses by Anastasia Bender online for those who want to get acquainted with acting or enroll in a theater university.

During the course you will learn how to become an actor, the nuances of the profession, and which university is best to enroll in. You will become familiar with the basics of acting schools and basic techniques.

Acting will help you feel more confident in society and in everyday life. And for children, acting helps develop intelligence, imagination, emotionality, and the ability to use and manage feelings.

Exercise “Like Julius Caesar”

Being able to concentrate on what you are doing is very important for every person, but for an actor it plays a special role. If your child attends drama classes, he or she has probably been given several exercises to improve concentration and attention. Here's another one. Its essence is to do two things at the same time: for example, read to music. If this is too easy, ask your child to recite a poem to music. The task is not to get lost. Remember, there will always be extraneous noise in a theater or concert hall. It should not distract the actor. The quality of his performance and career depend on the speed of his thinking, attention, and ability to concentrate.

School Inter (for children)

Website: https://school-inter.net Duration: on request Cost: 400 rub./lesson

During the classes, children will “educate” their speech apparatus and make their speech not only literate, but also beautiful. For this, training in stage speech will be useful. Children will also engage in acting training to ensure that their reading and everyday speech become accurate and expressive.

Creative courage, developed imagination, rich imagination and the ability to make non-standard decisions will, I hope, be a good addition to creative results. And as part of their theatrical work, the guys will try their hand at a variety of radio shows!

As homework for classes, children will learn poems and short texts - to train their memory and learn to “experience” various emotions.

Classes are held in groups of 3-5 people once a week via Skype.

Keeping a creative diary

The development of attention begins not even in the classes themselves, but in everyday life. The beginner is encouraged to observe people and situations wherever he is, paying special attention to interesting personalities and their behavior, because in the future they can be used as prototypes for roles.

This exercise also includes an attentive attitude to surrounding objects. Every day you need to write down what changes have occurred, what was not noticed before, what specifically has changed.

Acting training according to the Stanislavsky system. Exercises and studies

...darkness fell, and a second later the large lamp that stood on the table near which I was sitting came on. The lampshade cast a round glare of light down onto my head and hands. It cheerfully illuminated the middle of the table, covered with trinkets. The rest of the stage and auditorium were drowning in eerie darkness. I felt all the more comfortable in the glare of the lamp, which seemed to suck all my attention into its bright circle, limited by darkness.

“This highlight on the table,” Tortsov told us, “illustrates a small circle of attention.”

You yourself, or rather, your heads and hands, caught in the strip of light, are in its center. Such a circle is similar to the small aperture of a photographic camera, detailing the smallest parts of the object.

Tortsov was right; indeed, all the trinkets standing on the table in the narrow circle of the singer naturally attracted attention.

Once you find yourself in a circle of light in complete darkness, you will immediately feel isolated from everyone. There, in the circle of light, just like at home, you are not afraid of anyone and are not ashamed of anything. There you forget that from the darkness from all sides there are many prying eyes watching your life. In a small circle of light I feel more at home than even in my own apartment. There, a curious housewife peers through the keyhole, while in a small circle the black walls of darkness bordering it seem impenetrable. In such a narrow circle of light, as with concentrated attention, it is easy not only to examine objects in all their finest details, but also to live with the most intimate feelings, thoughts and perform complex actions; you can solve difficult problems, understand the intricacies of your own feelings and thoughts; You can communicate with another person, feel him, share your most intimate thoughts, recall the past, dream about the future.

Tortsov understood my condition. He walked up to the ramp and said to me with animation:

- Notice quickly: the state that you are experiencing now is called in our language public loneliness.

It is public because we are all with you. It is loneliness, since you are separated from us by a small circle of attention. At a performance, in front of a crowd of thousands, you can always withdraw into loneliness, like a snail into a shell.

Now I will show you the average circle of attention.

Darkness fell.

Then a rather large space with a group of furniture was illuminated: with a table, chairs and a corner of the piano, with a fireplace, with a large armchair in front of it. I found myself in the center of this circle.

It was impossible to take in the entire space at once. I had to look at it piece by piece. Each thing inside the circle was a separate, independent point object. The only trouble is that with the increased light area, halftones were formed. These halftones fell outside the circle, making its walls less dense. Moreover, my solitude became too spacious. If the small circle can be compared to a single apartment, then the middle one would be like a family apartment. Just as it’s uncomfortable to live alone in an empty, cold mansion of ten rooms, a little guy, I wanted to get my sweet little circle of attention back.

But I felt and reasoned this way only as long as I was alone. When Shustov, Pushchin, Maloletkova, Vyuntsov and others entered my illuminated circle, we barely fit in it. A group formed, sitting on armchairs, chairs and a sofa.

The large area gives scope for wide action. In a large space, it is more convenient to talk about general rather than personal, intimate issues. Thanks to this, a lively, young and passionate folk scene was easily created in the middle circle. You can't repeat it to order. Like the small and medium circle of light shown today by Tortsov, I felt the artist’s well-being at the moment of expanding the area of attention.

What is acting?

Acting art

is a professional creative activity in the field of performing arts, consisting in the creation of stage images (roles), a type of performing arts. When performing a certain role in a theatrical performance, the actor, as it were, likens himself to the person on whose behalf he is acting in the play. By influencing the viewer during the performance, a special playing space and community of actors and spectators are created.

In modern society, when people spend a lot of time on computers and various mobile gadgets, many find it difficult to feel liberated, manage their emotions, communicate freely, and be confident. Because of this, people experience apathy or fear, as well as difficulty expressing their own thoughts and moods.

Emotional depression leads to internal pressures, which manifest themselves not only in facial expressions, speech, movements, but also in the inner world. Therefore, acting is useful not only for those who want to become a professional actor in the future, but also for people who want to learn how to manage emotions, be sociable, charismatic and successful in life.
